Child Find – Meeting the Needs of All Students

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow to their fullest potential. Van Wert City Schools is committed to ensuring that all children who may need additional support are identified and served appropriately.

In accordance with state and federal law, Van Wert City Schools actively identifies, locates, and evaluates children from birth through age 21 who may have a disability and may be in need of special education and/or related services. This includes children who reside within the district boundaries, regardless of whether they attend public school, private school, are homeschooled, are homeless, or are wards of the state.

Disabilities may include, but are not limited to: autism, hearing impairment, vision impairment, deaf-blindness, specific learning disabilities, speech or language impairments, developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, physical impairments, emotional disturbance, multiple disabilities, traumatic brain injury, and other health conditions that may impact learning.

If you believe your child, or any child you know, may need special education services, please contact Van Wert City Schools to discuss concerns and next steps.

Special Education Programming

Van Wert City Schools provides preschool and school-age special education programming for children ages 3 through 21. Our staff is committed to serving students and families within our district through supportive, collaborative practices.

We work closely with building teams to support the unique needs of students in a variety of educational settings. Our educators design and implement specially designed instruction and services based on each child’s individual learning needs.

Van Wert City Schools offers intervention services and related services, including speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy, to support students with identified disabilities and help them access their educational programs.
