Dear Cougar Community,

Where did the school year go? It's hard to believe the end of the school year is upon us. From preschool screenings to post-season athletic tournaments to the Senior Award Convocation and the culmination of 13 years at VWCS with our senior graduation on Sunday, May 26 at 2 PM, the last month of school can be a very busy and exciting time for students and families. We are so grateful that, even as you balance the numerous activities, you still find time to attend and participate in the end-of-year activities. Your continued support means so much to our students and staff!

It’s great to see our community come together to support Van Wert City Schools. From the Goedde students working to help clean up Main Street Van Wert to numerous community members coming into our schools to teach about financial literacy to our CEO Program partnerships, everyone's enthusiasm and support really make our school district special. Our teachers and staff, along with our invaluable volunteers and community partners, work so hard to make sure Van Wert City Schools is the best place to be, and it really shows!

With that being said, I want to give a big shout-out to all the teachers and staff for their hard work this year. They have done an incredible job helping our students succeed while creating a positive and inclusive culture at VWCS. Their commitment to Cougar Pride is what makes our school district so great!

I’d like to thank all the employees who have retired or are retiring at the end of the school year. This year’s retirees are celebrating over 175 years of service to Van Wert City Schools - simply amazing! Their hard work and dedication have made a huge impact on our district, and we wish them all the best in your future endeavors.

While the school year is coming to a close, we have many exciting things taking place to make our schools even better! New playground equipment will be installed at the ECC, Phase II of Eggerss Stadium is underway, and we will host an on-site safety simulation training at the end of June. Additionally, there are a variety of resources from our online library that can help students stay active and engaged during the break. These resources are available all summer at no cost, so be sure to take advantage of them for a fun and enriching summer!

Get ready for the 2024-2025 school year - it's going to be awesome! We're always working to make sure all students at VWCS feel supported and cared for. Starting in the fall of 2024, all students from preschool to 12th grade will be learning and using The R-Factor every day at school, which focuses on the simple formula E+R=O; E is an Event often out of our control, R is the Response that we do control, which equals the O or outcome. The R-Factor is a framework that helps students make good choices and develop important life skills to help them succeed in school and beyond.

Thank you for your continued support of in all that we do. Be sure to check out our latest Quality Profile to see all the exciting things happening in our schools!

Have a safe and enjoyable summer, and we look forward to seeing you all soon. GO COUGARS!

Warmest regards,
