Van Wert High School Announces New Student Technology Policy

Effective August 20, 2024, Van Wert High School will begin enforcing the new student technology
policy
for the 2024/2025 school year.

Van Wert High School will allow students to bring their Personal Communication Devices (PCDs) into
the building during the school day, however, PCDs should be powered off and secured in students'
assigned academic lockers. Students may use PCDs and other portable electronic devices in the
building during the following designated times within the guidelines listed below:

  1. Before school, until the bell rings at 7:55 A.M.
  2. After school, when the bell rings at 2:38 P.M.
  3. During their lunch periods, only while in the cafeteria (commons).
  4. In a Teacher’s classroom, if instructed by the teacher and approved by the administration.

 

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What is considered a PCD?
    • Personal laptops, tablets, iPads, smart watches, cell phones, and earbuds/headphones are all considered a PCD.
  • Can students use personal laptops/tablets during school hours?
    • No, all students are required to use a school-issued laptop during the school day.
  • Can students use earbuds or headphones in the building/classroom?
    • Students may use earbuds or headphones before school, during lunch, or after school, and must be
      stored away in lockers at any other time during the school day, unless permitted by a school official.
  • How will a student/athlete be contacted regarding after-school practices/rehearsals?
    • Students may check their PCDs for communication from coaches before school, during lunch, or after school. Sports announcements will go out through Final Forms email list, and over the PA system at school when appropriate.
  • What if there is an emergency and I need to reach my child?
    • Parents/guardians may reach students in the event of an emergency by calling the high school office at 419-238-3350. All of our high school classrooms have phones, which can be used to contact students through the office during emergencies.
