Van Wert Sheriff Invites VWHS Students to Exploring Open House

Are you interested in a future career in the Criminal Justice or Law Enforcement? If so, we would like to invite you to attend the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office Exploring Open House on October 16. The open house will take place at 113 North Market Street, Van Wert, OH starting at 6:00 p.m. During this meeting, students will have the opportunity to see the workings of the sheriff’s office and talk with law enforcement professionals.

The Exploring program will provide you with information about careers in all types of law enforcement, answer any questions you may have in regarding the profession, and participate in hands-on projects demonstrating law enforcement principles. Exploring is a co-ed program for students 14-20 who have completed the 8th grade. 

Through once a month meetings, students will be given hands on experience in crime scene investigation, patrol techniques, fingerprinting, K-9 handling, firearms handling and safety, how to conduct traffic stops, first aid, and more!

The program is based on five areas of emphasis: Career Opportunities, Life Skills, Citizenship, Character Education and Leadership Experience. Explorers are offered the opportunity to gain exposure to various law enforcement fields through on-the-job observations and interactions with emergency services dispatching, corrections officers and road patrol deputies.

Application forms will be available at the event. The registration fee for this program is $41.25 and provides all participants with liability insurance.
