VWHS Government Students to Host Mayoral Forum

VWHS Government Students Present Mayoral Candidate Forum poster

Van Wert High School’s Government students would like to invite to the residents of Van Wert City to join them in the upcoming mayoral candidate forum on Monday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Niswonger Performing Arts Center’s First Federal Lecture Hall. This event was created in response to the public’s opinion that many don’t know who to vote for and would like to hear from the candidates themselves.

The three mayoral candidates, Don Farmer (independent), Joe Jared (independent), and Ken Markward (Republican) will each have two minutes to respond to the questions presented, rotating who answers first throughout the event. The candidates will not be given the opportunity for rebuttals during the forum.

This is an opportunity for public questions and concerns to be voiced. Van Wert residents are encouraged to submit their questions in advance to Mr. Jeff Kallas, VWHS Government teacher, at j_kallas@vwcs.net as there is no public forum planned at this time. Please have all questions submitted by Friday, October 18 at 3:00 p.m.

Students will facilitate the forum from start to finish, from introducing the candidates to moderating and timing the event. Community members are encouraged to attend a meet-and-greet of the candidates following the forum.
